Spud is looking for a People Generalist! 


The People Generalist is a hands-on role that is responsible for providing People team support to our BC based Operations teams (warehouse and logistics). This position is based in person at #105 5566 Trapp Avenue, Burnaby, BC.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for team member inquiries, incidents, and investigations for assigned client groups, ensuring a positive team member experience.
  • Work closely with our management team to ensure they have the resources, knowledge, and advice to be successful people leaders.
  • Deliver orientation. Seek ways to continuously improve team member experience upon joining.
  • Actively identify opportunities to improve engagement, culture, and morale. Plan and execute where appropriate.
  • Issue amendment letters and other forms of documentation.
  • Support progressive discipline and performance management conversations.
  • Conduct exit interviews as needed.
  • Participate in a company-wide policy, procedure, and systems projects.
  • Provide administrative, data-entry support for our Payroll and HR systems, including new hire paperwork and team member changes.
  • Provide process and systems recommendations to support the evolution of our programs and team member experience.
  • Deliver detailed metrics and reporting to drive continuous process and strategy improvement.
  • Work with hiring managers to create job descriptions that are in compliance with federal and provincial regulations and that are effective in attracting new talent.
  • Assist with recruitment and talent acquisition support as needed.
  • Support the rest of the People team with strategic planning and execution.
  • Champion diversity, inclusion, and belonging efforts internally in collaboration with all stakeholders. Ensure these efforts encompass all team member practices.
  • Create and present trainings, both in person and virtually.
  • Administer and support team member leaves and return to work.
  • Ensure our workplace is COVID and OHS compliant. This position will sit on our Joint Health & Safety Committee.
  • Assist with WCB claims, investigations, and inspections; including follow up with accommodations and return to work.
  • Additional duties, responsibilities, and projects as assigned.



Job requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years working in a HR Coordinator role, or similar.
  • Undergraduate degree or diploma; HR specification or certification is preferred.
  • You take a big picture perspective to identify and stay focused on what is most important, then dive in on the details to plan, develop, and execute seamlessly. You get excited at the idea of creating a program from scratch, implementing it, and supporting its impact on the organization and have a track record of doing so.
  • You are a logical, analytical, and strategic thinker who is a proven influencer and collaborator.
  • You thrive in a fast paced, dynamic, startup-like environment. You are highly motivated, dedicated, and comfortable with change and ambiguity
  • You are comfortable with Microsoft Office, MS Teams, HRIS, Performance Management, and ATS systems.
  • You have strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative work style, and the ability to build relationships with team members with varying personalities at all levels of the organization.
  • You are comfortable navigating your way around Canadian and Provincial employment law, and you consider yourself a subject matter expert in this space.
  • You are regarded as an exceptional communicator and able to influence a broad and diverse range of stakeholders through effective relationships, verbal and written communication skills.
  • You are adept at writing fun, effective and informative internal communications.
