Barista (Be Fresh Local Market)

Be Fresh is looking for a Barista to join the team at our Be Fresh Market (1900 West 1st Ave in Kits) and/or Organic Acres Market (3603 Main Street) locations. Shifts and hours will depend on employee availability and shift vacancies.

Be Fresh, operated by Spud, is a small café and grocery market stocked with fresh, high quality, local grocery and produce items. Whether it’s a local vendor we sell, specialty drink we make, or pop-up event, we are passionate about providing amazing experiences for our customers and creating community within our neighbourhoods.

Baristas are the first point of contact for customers when they visit Be Fresh. As a Barista, you may be assigned coffee-bar duties, general customer service responsibilities, or assigned to a specific area of the market, such as produce or grocery. Regardless of task, you will be contributing to the customer experience, and the lasting impression that our team members create for our customers!

• Greet and assist customers with a smile and great attitude, helping to make their day special.

• Take food and beverage orders, ring through purchases with our POS system, and provide general customer service to our customers.

• Prepare and serve hot and cold drinks such as coffee, tea, espresso and specialty beverages.

• Assist in light food prep, as needed.

• Receive vendor orders and restock shelves and displays based on FIFO.

• Ensure shelving, displays and products are always merchandised correctly. This includes making sure our produce is fresh.

• Clean and sanitize all areas of the market including working areas, market seating, shelving and product displays, and washroom.

• Follow all food and workplace safety requirements.

• Work as part of a team to meet objectives and ensure customers leave happy.

• Other duties and general café operations, as assigned.

• Previous experience as a Barista is an asset.

• Previous experience working in a customer service, restaurant, retail or grocery position is preferred.

• Ability to work in a fast pasted, team-oriented environment.

• Enthusiasm, energy and a positive attitude!

• Excellent customer service skills and ability to interact with all kinds of people.

• A passion for local, organic, and sustainable food and products.

Our Offer:

• $17.85 per hour starting wage, plus tips
